Notable
Landmarks of Northwestern Threforfar
| This page contains
information about the territory that surrounds the town
of Akia. The village is located far to the west of
Threforfar, at the base of the Westworld Mountains and
the shores of the Blue Sea. On most days, the peaks of
the Westworld Mountains are visible to the northwest;
the tallest of which are snow-covered year round. To the
southeast of town lies the Blue Sea, which covers a large portion
of northwestern Threforfar. Hugging the southwestern
corner of the Blue Sea are the Verde Woods, which directly surround the
town of Akia. The Contu River flows south of town, carrying
water from the mountains to the sea. Fort Hancock is nestled in the mountains to
the northwest and is Akia's closest neighbor, though
hardly anyone makes the arduous journey up into the
clouds. Beantown is the nearest village and is about the same size as Akia. It takes four days to walk north along the ancient road to reach it, but can be reached in two days by ship. Also on the shores of the Blue Sea, Beantown has a bit more shipping business than Akia. Furs from the north are brought down and shipped from there along with various other products. The town is only about half human. Several of the little people, called halflings by others, live there as well, tending small farms. There is sometimes tension between the two groups. West of Beantown, on the other side of the ancient road, is Pitwatch. It is the northwesternmost outpost of the Empire. Another small garrison of soldiers is stationed there and a small community has grown up around the keep. They often patrol for Nyrgil who occasionally will raid down from Gofin. It doesn't exactly have the reputation as being the most wholesome community in the Empire. Akia's nearest neighbor to the south is Bairn, which is about 5 days travel along the ancient road, first to the south, then to the east. One must cross the Contu and Faun rivers before getting to this farming town. Bairn, while tiny in comparison to most of the Empire, is the largest town in the region. It rests along the western bank of the wide, lazy Shribly River. The town hosts a large farmer's market twice a year; once in the summer and once in the fall right after the harvest. People from all over western Threforfar travel there for the festivities and to buy and sell goods. It is centered in some of the most fertile land in all of the Empire and surrounded by man farms. There is a rough, hand-drawn Northwestern Threforfar Map. The distances aren't exactly perfect, but it should give you and idea of the surrounding area. There is rumor of a Wizard's Island somewhere off the coast of the Blue Sea. Akia 's main page is still back there if you are ready to go back. |
