Akia
Sleepy is a good way to put it. Far in the western reaches of Threforfar, far from the hubbub and politics of the cities, lies the town of Akia. It is nestled among the trees and gently rolling hills west of the Blue Sea. Further to the northwest, threatening to tear holes in the sky, are the impossibly tall Westworld Mountains. Somewhere up there, among the clouds, is Fort Hancock; an outpost of soldiers that marks the westernmost point of the Empire of Threforfar and is Akia's closest neighbor.

Akia is a quiet town with some 200 inhabitants. It is a small village where most everyone knows most everyone else. Maybe another 100 people live in the surrounding farmlands. There is only one store and one inn/tavern. The businesses are simple. There is a feed store, a blacksmith, a stable, and, of course, Moonsong Winery. The old estate, the reason for the town's existance in the first place, is nestled in the rolling hills north of the center. Akia Moonsong founded the winery six generations ago and, while in decline, it is still the center of the town's commerce. A short road meanders southeast for a few miles down to the coast of the Blue Sea, where docks await ships to transport the wines across the waters to such glorious places as Salabelle and Flagaton Pol. The ships don't come in as often as they used to and visitors to the quaint hamlet become less and less. Several miles west of Akia, the ancient road of Threforfar runs north and south where it circles the entire Blue Sea. The legends of childrens' stories tell that the road was built by dragons. Of course, there are no such things as dragons.

It is here that we lay our scene.

Moonsong Winery

Local lore varies, depending on who is telling the story, but by most accounts, Moonsong Winery was founded by Akia Moonsong. It is in the heart of a mesoclimate with the imposing peaks of the Westworld Mountains and the sun-drenched hills, tempered by breezes from the Blue Sea. Some say Akia had elven blood in his veins. Regardless, he settled the region and built the imposing estate. The vineyard spreads out over the hills. There are stories of vast underground storing facilities where the wine is aged in natural caverns under the estate. In recent years, the winery has not been doing as well as in the past. Less and less often, the ships come to take the vintages across the sea to the cities of the Empire.
Kiltin's Rest

No one knows who Kiltin is or if he ever existed, but this pub is nearly as old as the Moonsong Winery. It isn't anything fancy, but it is where the locals gather night after night to socialize and trade stories. The occasional traveler in Akia might seek shelter in one of the two rooms that are upstairs. The tavern is nestled in the heart of town, south of the old Winery. Some of the best wine in all of Threforfar can be purchased here relatively inexpensively. They also serve dinner, as well as other beverages.

The Old Forge: Ferrier and Blacksmith

Heat can be felt pouring out of the forge day and night, winter and summer. The people of Akia note that the fire here has never gone out as long as the town has existed. On the south side of town, the forge provides a few jobs for the community as well as much needed service. Being so far from the cities of the Empire, Akia has learned to be self-sufficient.

Akia Feed
To the southwest of town, a few small farms supply grains and corn. What isn't bought up by the mill, is purchased by Akia Feed. It is a relatively small business in town, but it makes the lives of the local farmers and others with livestock a bit easier, if a bit more pricey.

The Mill

Located a few hours south of town along the Contu River, the Mill used the water power of the river to grind grains. It is a small center of commerce for most of the far northwestern reaches of Threforfar, being the next closest mill is in Bairn, almost three days travel to the southeast. The Mill's primary products are soft wheat flour and white cornmeal.

Red Wolf Stables
Across the way from The Old Forge is Red Wolf Stables. Named after a local folktale, the stables are not exactly huge in this small community, but they provide a service, mostly to members of the Moonsong family. Several horses are kept here full time and, when travelers stay at Kiltin's Rest, their animals are often stored here and cared for.

Drake's Store
Drake's Store serves the town as a general store. They purchase things from across the Empire that they think they can resell in Akia. Being so far away, the prices are a little steep for the more exotic items and, if they don't have it in stock, you have to allow two to three months for delivery. They get shipments in from the docks as well as from the occasional merchent caravan that travels the Ancient Road.

Other Notes
Several small families operate side businesses out of their homes. These shops could be anything from candles to leather pouches. Often, these products are sold Drake's Store and kept as stock until someone needs them.
